The Chilean practice of Pezo von Ellrichshausen takes centre stage in this issue. Founded in 2002 by Mauricio Pezo and Sofia von Ellrichshausen, the studio’s work is characterised by its focus on a combination of residential and small-scale architecture and artistic endeavours. Presented here is selection of more than 20 works spread across multiple continents, including several cultural centres and pavilions in the Americas and Europe, a visitor centre in Canberra, an innovation centre in their home base of Concepción, and a diverse array of houses. An added highlight is the contribution of two essays by Pezo and Von Ellrichshausen themselves.

Their work has been widely published in monographic issues of ARQ (Santiago, 2007), 2G (Barcelona, 2012), A+U (Tokio, 2013) and AV (Madrid, 2017), and in the books Spatial Structure (B Architecture publisher) and Naïve Intention (Actar).

Mauricio Pezo completed a Master in Architecture at the Universidad Catolica de Chile (Santiago, 1998) and a degree in Architecture at the Universidad del Bio-Bio (Concepción, 1999). He has been awarded the Young Architect Prize by the Chilean Architects Association (Santiago, 2006) and the Municipal Art Prize by the Concepcion City Hall (2013).

Sofia von Ellrichshausen holds a degree in Architecture from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (2002) where she was distinguished with the FADU-UBA Honours Diploma. She was the Head of the jury at the Venice Biennale International Architecture Exhibition (2018).
